The Washington Literacy Center is led by President & CEO Jimmie Williams and powered by a team of professionally trained adult-learning specialists, guided by a dedicated Board of Directors chaired by Candace Cunningham, and strengthened by committed volunteers and community partners.
Since 1963, WLC has served adults across the District — learners who are 90% African American and nearly 85% women — helping them build the reading, math, digital, and workforce skills that change lives.
Recent board news: WLC welcomed Breanna Bledsoe to its Board of Directors, further strengthening the organization's leadership as it expands adult literacy, digital skills, and workforce opportunities across DC.
